NYT Editorial Backs Snowden but Fails Other Whistleblowers

Why is the NYT so concerned about Snowden?  Perhaps they're complicit with the NSA?  Has Snowden asked for clemency?  I'd prefer Snowden to continue on his path.  I've heard there is plenty more available - enough to dismay us all for 2014.
