Dear Mr. Clay, Thank you for contacting me about the President's Climate Action Plan. I appreciate hearing from you. Like you, I believe that it is essential to protect Pennsylvania's natural beauty and the quality of our environment. I am generally supportive of existing laws that protect our air and environment and I believe that individual state agencies have the best knowledge and tools at their disposal to appropriately safeguard the public health and economic wellbeing of Pennsylvania and other states. I also believe we can all agree that it is important for coal fired power plants to follow guidelines that protect public health and the environment. That said, like many Americans, I am concerned about some of the regulation coming out of Washington that harms job creators and the pocketbooks of hard-working Pennsylvanians. Under this administration, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been especially aggressive in proposing new rules that will raise energy prices, threaten jobs, and undermine our economy. In fact, new regulations are estimated to have contributed to the closure of over 200 coal power plants as well as the loss of more than 13,000 jobs. The President's latest proposals will only serve to continue this trend and I believe that Congress must seriously question the costs and benefits of federal policies that undermine good paying jobs in our state. Since coming to Congress, I have worked to ensure that EPA regulations are applied in a reasonable manner and do not hinder economic growth. Please be assured that I value your input as I continue fighting for common sense policies that will protect middle class jobs in Pennsylvania. Thank you again for your correspondence, please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of assistance. Sincerely, Signature Pat Toomey U.S. Senator, Pennsylvania
